Social Workers in Schools (SWiS)
SWiS is a primary and intermediate-school based community social work service.
SWiS social workers are available to support selected primary, intermediate, composite and Kura Kaupapa Māori schools; working primarily with the families and whanau of children in years one to eight (ages 5 -12).
We work in partnership with school staff as part of the school community; however we are not employed by the school and are all based at our agency offices in Victoria Avenue.
Requests for the jigsaw Whanganui SWiS service can be made by the children or family themselves, the school, or community or government agencies.
Social workers work with the most at-risk children, their families/whānau and schools, to team up with all concerned to develop plans to improve their safety, wellbeing and educational outcomes.
